:)I really enjoy debates. I think that debates are a great way to improve your ability to think on your feet, become better at public speaking, and synthesize arguments quickly. If you'd like to hone your rhetorical skills in a battle of wits, please come to our debate night next Monday!
Potential topics include (but are not limited to):
- AI policy
- immigration
- the ultimate fate of the lightcone
- direct democracy
- YIMBY
- propose your own!
Format:
- 1 minute opening statement
- 2 minute argument
- 1 minute closing statement
People can choose whether they'd like their opponents to argue in good faith or not, as well as the topic they'd like to debate on. I'm hoping that everyone who comes gets the chance to debate. If you would like to prepare for a debate, post what topic you'd like to prep for in the comments!
